Ipê Hardwood Inlay
This project began with a simple question from the client: what if the floor itself became the centrepiece? Working in Ipê - one of the densest, most durable hardwoods available - we designed and hand-cut a series of compass rose inlays that transform a surface into a statement.
Each inlay was precision-cut from contrasting timber species to create tonal gradients that catch the light differently throughout the day. The compass rose motif was chosen for its navigational symbolism - a nod to the client's maritime heritage - and executed with the kind of geometric precision that only hand-crafting allows.
Ipê is an extraordinary material: naturally resistant to rot, insects, and UV degradation, with a rich colour that deepens over time. Paired with the intricate inlay work, this floor is designed to be walked on, lived on, and admired for generations.
